Hi all! I wrote a letter to my superintendent recently after a mass exodus of our seasoned veterans got walking papers or where muscled out. I knew nothing of Eli Broad or Badasses when I wrote this a few weeks ago, when the last straw of the exodus was issued. Decades deep gutting of my school... and even laying off an office clerk who served my community 28 years. My city was outraged. My mayor is trying to help us save my school. I will soon be meeting with a group of parents, teachers and students and the superintendent. BADASS founder suggests I get your local support. I'm in Broward. How can we stop this together? I'm already working with the press. A fellow badass also published below in his blog parts of my letter. I need help and Ideas. I can out myself as a badass or keep it on the down low... but my community is getting involved and we plan to stop this hostile takeover which has devastated my once A school with a large voluntary gifted and advanced program. Those have fled, leaving my school with half the population and test scores going down. I thought it was just incompetence, and Rallied the community... but now that I know my Supt. Is an Eli Broad alumni... what do I do know and how can you guys help me??

Terry Preuss great idea. Is that who the unions are supporting? I haven't heard yet.

Amanda More Well, maybe not. But she is the most personable politician I have ever met. She can go toe to toe with the most rabid of them.

Dave Galloway The FEA is not in play as far as a candidate yet. Tom James any thoughts for this situation??

Tom James Rich is good and should be able to stunt the most extreme measures. Usually its up to board members but browards board isnt very good and most likely to rubberstamp the super.
Unfortunately their union isnt too good either.

Terry Preuss What is up with the union in Broward? I recently had to beg to get grievances written? I was really surprised, and thought it was just a fluke. How do we fix that? I want a strong union. Where to start??

Tom James Theyve been pretty sorry in my opinion. Their last two leaders have both been indicted and they recently cut a horrible deal with pembroke pines charter teachers giving in to demands for an average 3,300 per teacher pay cut.

Terry Preuss OMG! I heard they were in negotiations but I didn't know they had caved on that. I thought they were just trying to save jobs! iN FACT i THOUGHT THEIR BEING SO BUSY OVER THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THEM to sleep on my issues!!

Terry Preuss I'm going to be starting on the inside soon... was elected to the executive board and I want to see what the heck is really going on up there. I hope the new President can pull it off for us.. but if we lost 3300 in teacher pay... good grief!

Terry Preuss She is the one who exposed the last president. She is an attorney... I like her so far... but did not know about this cut at Pines Charter.

Terry Preuss I'll be working closely with her going forward, but I see the union there needs to toughen up. No idea why they seem soft. It's like the whole state knows it. That's embarrassing! I'll have to make sure I change that! LOL

Terry Preuss I found BAT because I was so frustrated with my union... that I went straight to the superintendent as a citizen for help! My school is being gutted and scores plummeting and teachers being harassed and no one comes to fight for us they way I think the fight needs to be had... so I just decided to go at it like a parent and a citizen and see what happens!

Tom James He is part of the obama duncan emmanuel group who are all anti public ed and anti teacher. They are all anti union.

Terry Preuss I THINK OUR DADE AND BROWARD UNIONS NEED TO UNITE. I WAS IN DADE 14 YEARS. WE WOULD BE MORE POWERFUL IF WE WORKED TOGETHER. ALL THE UNIONS FROM ALL THE FRS JOBS NEED TO UNITE.
